Our Process
-
1. Drawing Lesson
Students begin with a guided drawing lesson that introduces the theme and teaches fundamental techniques for their print.

-
2. Sketching
Next, students sketch their ideas on paper, experimenting with various lines, shapes, and patterns.

-
3. Learning to Print
Students discover essential printmaking tools—including brayers, ink, slabs, and a printing press—to prepare for printing.

-
4. Carving the Printmaking Plate
Students discover techniques and specialized tools used to safely carve their own printmaking plate

-
5. Printing
Finally, each student inks their plate and uses the press to pull their own custom linocut print.

What We Offer
Linocut Printmaking
In-School Art Field Trips
During an In-School Art Field Trip, an experienced art instructor visits your classroom for a 90-minute program (multiple sessions can be scheduled in a single day).
Choose from a variety of printmaking themes tailored to your grade level. We bring all supplies, handle setup and cleanup, and teach directly in your classroom. Students receive a drawing lesson and use authentic printmaking tools to create their own linocut print. Book independently for your class or coordinate with colleagues for a full school day.
Linocut Printmaking
Artist in Residence
During an Artist in Residence program, your entire school participates in a collaborative creative experience. An experienced art instructor joins your school for 1 to 3 weeks (based on student population) to guide every classroom through hands-on printmaking.
Schools can select from our popular school-wide themes: An Animal Story, Canada Coast to Coast, or The Arctic and the Inuit. Grant funding is often available to help cover program costs—click below to explore options!
